The Power at Work Within Us: Living Victorious in God’s Strength

Ephesians 3:20

“Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us.”

God’s Power Is Not Distant — It’s Within Us

The Apostle Paul closes his prayer in Ephesians 3 with a breathtaking declaration: God can do exceedingly, abundantly above all we could ask, imagine, or dream. But notice the key phrase: “according to the power at work within us.”

This means the power that raised Jesus from the dead (Eph. 1:19–20) is not only working around us but is active inside us. For every believer, this “power” is the Holy Spirit dwelling in us — strengthening, guiding, and equipping us to live in victory.

We often limit God by thinking only in terms of what we can accomplish with our effort. But Paul reminds us: God’s power is greater than our imagination, and He has chosen to work through us as vessels of His glory.

What Does This Power Do in Us?

  1. Transforms Our Inner Life — The Spirit renews our minds and hearts (Romans 12:2).
  2. Equips Us to Overcome Sin — We no longer walk according to the flesh but by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16).
  3. Strengthens Us Against the Enemy — God’s power shields us against Satan’s schemes (Ephesians 6:10–11).
  4. Fills Us with Love and Boldness — Fear is replaced with faith and courage (2 Timothy 1:7).
  5. Accomplishes God’s Purposes — What He has planned for us cannot be destroyed by human hands or demonic darts.

Why the Enemy Attacks

The enemy knows that if believers fully walk in the Spirit’s power, his schemes lose their grip. That’s why he sends fiery darts of doubt, fear, discouragement, temptation, and distraction — to destroy what God has prepared for us.

But here is the good news: the power within us is greater than anything against us (1 John 4:4). We are not left defenseless; we have God’s armor, God’s Spirit, and God’s promises.

Prayers to Activate and Protect the Power at Work Within Us

Prayer of Surrender and Empowerment

Father, I thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit dwelling in me. I surrender my heart, my thoughts, and my actions to You today. Fill me afresh with Your Spirit. Let Your power work in me to transform my life, guide my steps, and glorify Christ through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer Against the Enemy’s Darts

Lord, Your Word declares that no weapon formed against me shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). I lift the shield of faith to extinguish every fiery dart of the enemy — every dart of fear, doubt, temptation, and discouragement. By the blood of Jesus, I stand in victory and declare that the enemy has no power to destroy what You have planned for my life. Strengthen me in Your might, O God, and surround me with Your protection. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Prayer for Bold Faith

Heavenly Father, do far more abundantly in my life than I can ask or imagine. Increase my faith to trust Your power at work within me. Help me to walk not in my own strength but in the strength of Your Spirit. Use me as Your vessel to bring light, hope, and truth to others. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Beloved, the power of God at work within you is unstoppable. Don’t underestimate what God can do through your life. The same Spirit who raised Jesus is in you, and He is able to accomplish more than you could ever dream. Walk in faith, resist the darts of the enemy, and live in the abundant victory of Christ.

Encouragement: When the enemy whispers “you can’t,” remember God’s Word says “He can — through you.”
